Modi govt most anti-poor govt and lives in denial: P Chidambaram
Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday said the Narendra Modi government is the most "anti-poor" government in India. Addressing a gathering of the Telangana Congress to discuss the Union Budget, P Chidambaram said the state of Indian economy is such that there isn't any indicator that instils hope.
"There is not a single indicator that gives us hope. Why is the Finance Minister not uttering a word on the bad shape of the economy? The foreign reserves have gone down. Why is Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman so reluctant on accepting facts?" Chidambaram asked.
Attacking the Narendra Modi government, he said, "This government lives in denial."
Chidambaram said demonetisation and implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were two blunders committed by the Modi government.
"Demonetisation was a monumental mistake. It was a blunder in free India. It killed jobs, destroyed industries, particularly the micro and medium-scale industry," Chidambaram said.
He also called GST as "second blunder" under the Modi government.
