Kerala High Court stays state govt's liquor order

Kerala High Court on Thursday stayed a government order to supply liquor to persons with alcohol withdrawal symptom. The division bench stayed the government order in this regard for 3 weeks.

The Kerala government order had stated that people with alcohol withdrawal symptom can apply for liquor pass, with a doctor's certificate that the person is suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptom.

The doctors had protested against this order staring that alcohol addiction is a disease and it cannot be treated with alcohol and that this is against the medical ethics.

There were three petitions, including one filed by Congress MP TN Prathapan, against this move.
