Sensex was up 1,627.73 points
Benchmark indices broke the four day losing streak and ended higher on March 20 with Nifty closed above 8,700 level amid buying seen in across the sectors.
At close, the Sensex was up 1,627.73 points or 5.75% at 29915.96, while Nifty was up 482 points or 5.83% at 8745.45. About 1430 shares have advanced, 991 shares declined, and 142 shares are unchanged.
Bharti Infratel, GAIL, ONGC, UltraTech Cement and HUL were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports and Axis Bank.
All the sectoral indices ended in the green with IT and FMCG index rose more than 8 percent, followed by the Energy, Infra, Metal, Auto, and Pharma. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed with 4 percent gains.
